Who is having a more sharp mind Einstein or Newton?

Can anyone explain the general theory of relativity by einstein and what does it got to do with Newton's laws?

  • I am doing a project on einstein's vs Newton's theory (3 laws of motion), but i don't really understand einstein's theory of relativity. Please help. thanks

  • Answer:

General relativity is Einstein's theory of gravity. The problem with Newtonian gravity is that it's nonlocal--it presumes that if an object moves, the gravitational field all around it instantly moves as well. That a movement in one place could instantly affect a far-away field violates locality--an important part of special relativity. So Einstein set out to fix gravity to make it consistent with relativity. As his starting point, he used an old idea called the equivalence principle, which was known before galileo and built into newtonian gravity--that all objects fall the same in a gravitational field. This allows us to say that being in a gravitational field is exactly the same as being in an accelerating reference frame. Anything I could do in my laboratory on earth I could do just as well in a laboratory on a rocketship accelerating through deep space at a rate of g. It also allowed Einstein to model gravity as a bending of space and time through which objects move rather than as a force acting on the objects. Newton's theories are recovered as a low energy, weak-field limit of general relativity. But GR also explains some things that Newtonian gravity can't--for example that clocks run slow in a gravitational field relative to clocks in deep space and that light is bent by gravity,
