Magnitude of the total Electrostatic Force??? ?
-
I'm really confused on how to do this one. Should I find F(3,1) and F(3,2) then combine them? Please help? A particle with charge 4 μC is located on the x-axis at the point 10 cm, and a second particle with charge −4 μC is placed on the x-axis at −4 cm. The Coulomb constant is 8.9875 × 109 N · m2/C2. Q. What is the magnitude of the total electrostatic force on a third particle with charge 8 μC placed on the x-axis at −2 cm? Answer in units of N. Thanks for any help. ^__^

Answer:
k = 8.9875 * 10 ^ 9 q1 = 4 * 10 ^ -6 C q2 = -4 * 10 ^ -6 C q3 = 8 * 10 ^ -6 C r1 = 0.02 m r2 = 0.12 m F_total= (k * q3 * q1 / r2 ^ 2) + (k * q3 * |q2| / r1 ^ 2) F_total= 738.972 N
