What causes Earth's Magnetosphere?

Does anyone actually know what causes the earths pulses and jets to occur?

• Are they like electrical shoot outs from the earths core like lightning from a cloud or what? please explain if you have a clue.

  Blue jets are triggered by the discharges of positive lightning between an underlying thundercloud and the ground. I don't quite understand what you mean by, "pulses", but I'm willing to take a guess. Sheet lightning is an informally applied name to cloud-to-cloud lightning that exhibits a diffuse brightening of the surface of a cloud caused by the actual discharge path being hidden. A cloud may appear to pulse if multiple strikes go off one after the other. edit~ Now I'm going to have to get over saying "((((warrior soul))))"! =) ((((Seeker)))) edit~ Kirschway makes a good point raising the idea of sprites, but I didn't know blue jets were considered "conventional". Hell, they're in the same class as sprites and elves (just ignore the funny names)... actually, now that I think about it, the "pulses" that you're wondering about may just be elves. The elve results from an especially powerful electromagnetic radiation pulse (EMP) that emanates from certain lightning discharges. As the energy passes upwards through the base of the ionosphere it causes the gases to briefly glow.
