Is the butterfly effect literally possible?

Can you tell me the difference between “domino effect” and “butterfly effect”?

  • Is “domino effect” always harmful? Can we believe in “butterfly effect”? Thanks ahead of time for your help!

  • Answer:

The domino effect is a clear sequence of events: A causes B, then B causes C, while the expression is often used to describe negative consequences of things, a great deal of metallurgy and materials development relies on exactly such sequences. it is, for example a sort of domino effect that causes epoxy glue to set. The butterfly effect was discovered in the course of the development of: the study of dynamical systems - popularly called "Chaos Theory" - that very small events can have a huge net effect on the whole system. It IS a reality, and something that, for example, weather forecasters look for in making predictions. There is an old saying that describes it well: For want of a shoe, the horse was lost, For want of a horse, the battle was lost, For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.

The butterfly effect is, in a sense, the opposite of the domino effect. In the domino effect, one thing causes something else, which causes another event, and so on a so forth. In the butterfly effect, many little things cause one big thing. In logic you can think of the domino effect as the law of syllogism or the chain rule (a conditional). a -> b b -> c c -> d The butterfly effect would be like a conjunction then a conditional. a^b -> c a^b^c -> d (a \/ b) ^ (c \/ d) -> e etc. etc. The domino effect isn't always harmful. You can think of the domino effect as something like, "I spilled milk, so I had to find a cloth, when I found a cloth I found a $100 bill next to it. I used that money to get someone else to clean it up." ;D The butterfly effect is real, you can just think of global warming. All of the little things: leaving on a light or television, forgetting to shut down your computer or laptop, and using a "gas guzzler" as a car lead up to global warming because many people did these little things.
