How Can You Tell If A Tsunami Is Coming?

  • By just looking for signs with weather and tides etc no scientific equipment

  • Answer:

    Tsunami Warning Signs: 1. You feel a strong earthquake lasting 20 seconds or more and you are on the coast. 2. You notice a rapid rise or fall in local waters (ie: the tide suddenly draws the waterline a mile or two out to sea) . This means a Tsunami is on its way there now - evacuate immediately. 3. You notice a surging wave choked with debris. These are not "V" or rolling waves or can be surfed on. Note, the first wave is not always the strongest. If a Tsunami is imminent you should head at least 5kms inland to higher ground. Avoid all rivers and streams.

Birds flying inland is one, but there is a early warning radar supposedly up and running to that if an earthquake happens in the ocean (which is what causes them) they can alert people by media, also the tide just goes way out, dont stand and watch, although it would be tough not to, be like watching the bathwater go down the drain, because that building up to make the huge wave, so, if it was me, I'd pretend that jaws was chasing me and run like heck to higher ground lol! :)

The best way to make sure a tsunami is heading ur way is by looking at the sea level....if it recedes farther than normal... then u know a tsunami is coming....i've done research on this and have found that it is the surest way of knowing when a tsunami is going to hit....

An earthquake is the most obvious sign, but I've also heard the tide recedes just before one hits.
