What is the difference between exempt and non-exempt position?

What's the difference between a Location and a Position?

  • In the context of real time locating systems and global positioning systems, i'd like to know what's the exact difference between them? I'd like to think that a position is always a number, and a location is a symbolical place. The GPS is designed to give something a position, which is always a coordinate. A locating system however is able to generate a symbolical place or a x,y,z coordinate to indicate where an object resides. Please help me out here :-)

  • Answer:

By what you've said, I would guess the Location is the actual place... A specific McDonalds in New York for instance. The position would therefore be the 'position' of a particular 'location' with respect to the coordinate system of the GPS system. The GPS system needs a coordinate system to tell where everything is at (like latitude and longitude, or x and y coordinates of a point on a graph). As long as you know what the coordinate system is, you can figure out the Location on the earth of a particular GPS Position.
