If all the world's bodies of water and waterways are connected...?
-
how come some water is fresh and some is salt water?
-
Answer:
First, all bodies of water are not connected. The Salton Sea in California, the Dead Sea in the ME are not connected to anything. Salt water is made salty by mineral run off. Fresh water, on the other hand, is sourced as rain, snow, glacial melt, or spring-fed from subterranean aquifers. The fresh water that does connect to seawater remains fresh because of its constant flow to the sea. Even in places where tidal flows periodically run upstream, the continuous flow of fresh water pushes the mixed water back out to sea.
