Could Gilligans Island happen today?
-
OK we've all seen the 1960's show Gilligans Island where a boat gets caught in a storm and ends up on a remote deserted island perhaps hundreds of miles off course, with no chance of being found. What if this happened today and the boat was not equipped with any technology such as a radio or emergency beacon? Would 21st century technology locate them easily or would it take years or might they be never found?

Answer:
It is impossible to be lost or stranded on a dessert isle today. Have you tried Google mapping? There is virtually nowhere on earth you can hide. Satellites now can see everywhere. The best satellite imaging can pick out a soda can on the street. They can even see at night using thermal imaging and infrared. If you are an important enough person or have relatives with money to burn, they can locate you with satellites within minutes. Telling someone to get lost is easy. Actually getting lost today is hard.

Well if the boat didnt have that stuff on there. How would anyone know where to look. Another good showing of this, is the movie CASTAWAY. Unless someone happens to show up on some islands you could be screwed. Another problem is, that if people just saw a boat on shore, it is unlikely they would give two thoughts about it, other than a hey look at that. So it is possible. Keep in mind though, that around the world, many governments check islands for DRUG smugglers, and Arms Dealers, and Illegal aliens. So it is more likely that they would be spotted farely soon. The actual question at hand is whether or not there are any islands remaining on this planet that aren't on any map or known to someone someplace. I don't know the answer. I do know that since you can use Google maps, enter your address and it will produce an actual PICTURE OF YOUR HOUSE (!), it's unlikely with that level of satellite surveillance that any islands are completely unknown. So all people have to do is check everywhere when a boat goes missing. On a related subject, don't you think it's weird that they were on that island for 15 years and not one child was born in all that time?

Of course it can happen today. There are so many uninhabited remote islands out there.
