Where are the GIS jobs?

What are some jobs that I could do as a geography major besides GIS?

  • Answer:

you could go politically- like boarder marking and disagreements between nations. or environmentally, economically, physics... pretty much find another area that you like and you can use both geography and your other interest in your future. Geography majors are very important. Ex: During WWII there were a lot of geography majors helping in the war effort (ex: what is the best way to get the troops in the area with this terrain) Highly suggest you read 'Why Geography matters' by Harm de Blij. Geography can be looked at as a specialty and it is desperately need in this time period. This book will give you a lot of ideas too.

You could teach geography. My current geography teacher was involved in the fish and wildlife service, so this might also be a possiblility. A web search got this: http://www.mymajors.com/majors/GEOG_major.html You will never get rich, but if this is what you love, do it.
