  • what functions are performed by chewing(mastication), what sort of mammals chew their own food, and what might be the consequences if they did not do that?

  • Answer:

To start with, chewing is the first step of proper digestion. Enzymes in the mouth begin to break down the food stuffs so that the gut doesnt have to work so hard. Mammals that chew thier own food: Humans, monkeys, horses, cows. Results of not chewing: Constipation, Malnutrition, the malnutrition would result from the body's inability to break down whole foods in the gut, improper digestion=no absorbtion of vitamins and minerals. Also, there is always a risk of choking when you dont chew.
