Osmosis: the random net movement of WATER molecules from a region of high water concentration to a region of low water concentration. As highlighted, the main difference between diffusion and osmosis is that osmosis involves water molecules. It would also be worthwhile to mention that neither of these processes require energy. Diffusion is defined as the movement of molecules or ions from a region of higher concentration to lower concentration, until the molecules are distributed evenly.Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a region of higher water concentration to a region of lower water concentration until the water molecules are distributed evenly. Here osmosis refers to the movement of only water molecules where as in diffusion it refers to inorganic substances.
