How hard is A-level chemistry?

At Alevel I've chosen: Chemistry, Human Biology, Physics, English Lang., Psychology and AS Critical Thinking.?

  • Do u think these r good choices to become a GP? Any other recommendations??? TA!

  • Answer:

For medicine you will need chemistry and biology (human biology not v good). The physics is also good. The English lang can be dropped and do the psycholgy if you want. Critical thinking not really needed. I am concerned that you will be doing 6 subjects at AS level and this will be a huge workload and will hurt your grades in the core subjects where you will need A grades. On balance, do biology and drop the English.

You need maths, drop the English Lang, it's totally useless. Also dont do human biology. Biology is the preferred subject. Also get some hobbies that will look great on your CV ( like volunteering in a soup kitchen etc). Things that show you have a caring side. The course is mad competitive and perfect grades alone wont ensure you a place on a course.

wow! thats a lot! have you had guidance? you must be really clever! generally people take 4 at AS (plus critical thinking sometimes) and then 3 at a level (plus critical thinking sometimes) but yeah great choices otherwise :) just remember you only need 3 As to be a GP. if you are gonna sacrifice those high grades for more a levels, you shouldnt be taking that many. but if you can still get all As, then go for it! good luck!

Good choices, but you could become a GP with only 3 of them for a level and 4 for AS level.

very good choices keep it up and go to uni after :)

bex in a box!

I think you may have difficulty with those sciences if you don't do maths!

Chemistry is essential and physics is good too but maths would be wanted by most medicine courses, as would biology as opposed to human biology. These would probably be preferred over physics. I think psychology generally wouldn't help if you're thinking of applying for medicine but if you can explain why you chose it it might be o.k. Critical thinking, like general studies, generally won't be looked at at all by top universities in terms of grade offers. Doing fewer subjects and instead concentrating on relevant extra curricular activities is probably advisable.

You've chosen SIX A Levels? Wow. Good choices. They are brilliant for someone who wants to be a GP, but a GP won't need that many:) It's most likely a GP would need Chemistry, Biology, and maaayyybe Psychology. Physics, English, and Critical Thinking aren't as obligatory for a GP:) Physics maybe, but take it for fun, or one of the other two for fun. If you've chosen all six, be warned, you have a busy year ahead:) But I think it'll be fun. Good luck!!! Bye;) xxxxx

No, do normal Biology instead of human Biology, Universities prefer this as you get a broader knowledge when you do Biology. Also Universities love it when you do Chemistry, if you look at UCAS most of the Unis want an A in chemistry. So do Chemistry instead of Physics.

I highly recommend that you take maths. Also, try to get experience, like in a special school or a care home. This shows that you are dedicated to helping other people and is an excellent thing to put on your personal statement. All the best!
