What does a minor do for you?

Major in Biology, what to minor with?

  • I'm a major in Biology (specializing in Biomedical Science) and I'm planning to take a minor. I'm thinking about taking a minor in Chemistry, or Management. I'm planning to take med school after my major. I'm also interested in studying nutrition and if I have time and money, I would also like to learn to have my own restaurant. Because of this, I'm thinking of taking management as a minor. By taking management, I would be able to learn some accounting and also please my dad who wants me to also learn this. However, I'm also interested in taking a minor in chemistry. However, I am worried that it won't be much of use since I already have learned the more important aspects of chemistry which I already took in with my major (Gen. Chem, Organic Chem and soon Biochem). But I enjoy chemistry a lot so I'm not sure... And I'm also wondering if its better to just focus on my major and have high grades so that I would be accepted in a good med school. My Gen. Average is not so great... just satisfactory but good enough and my weakest point is probably my humanities/social sciences subjects..., but I'm doing well in my core and other related science subjects (A in Organic Chem, Physics). Do you think I should minor in Chemistry or Management, or would you recommend me any other minor? (Note: there is no minor for nutrition, biochemistry).

  • Answer:

Med school? keep your focus in science & mathematics. especially physics. Chem is a good idea too, a lot of that shows up on the MCAT.
