What are plant growth enhancers?

Large increase in plant growth rate and its effects on moose and wolves ?

  • In my ecology class, we've been studying population growth and discussed Isle Royale in Lake Superior, with the moose and wolf populations. I'm curious, how would increasing the plant growth rate cause the moose and wolves to go extinct? To me, it seems that the populations would increase to the carrying capacity and stay fairly constant with such a high plant growth rate.

  • Answer:

More plants = more food for moose. This can't last forever; eventually, there will be too many moose for the plants, and moose will start starving. More moose, especially starving moose, = more food for wolves. Same deal as above: dwindling moose population from starvation and predation = less food for wolves.
