What qualifications are needed in order to become a Forensic Pathologist, in the UK?
-
I had a look on the Forensic Science Service website, and other sites, but it's non- specific and mostly about forensic scientists, not pathologists. Is it essential that you have a science related degree, or can you progress with A levels alone? Thanks x

Answer:
4 years of college 4 years of medical school 2 to 3 years of pathology residency 3 to 4 years of forensic pathology fellowship about 13 to 15 years of school...that's all.

This website is really good it tells you like everything, try it out. It says you need to be a doctor or a vet before you can become one. http://www.staff.ncl.ac.uk/fraser.charlton/pathology/page10/pathology_how.html So i guess you need, Maths, boilogy, chemistry a levels at A-B level. Then you have to get into medical school and get a medical degree.

You have to be a Doctor for starters, then you choose Forensic Pathology as your specialty.

Don't worry.. education in the UK is being dumbed down so much, Forensic Pathology will probably soon be offered as a part-time evening college course, with a certificate of achievement from McDonalds. I expect a lot of people who have no desire to do Medicine but are drawn to pathology from watching glossy programmes like CSI.. truth is it's a gruesome and creepy profession populated by some very strange individuals.. you are in for a rude awakening if you are one of these people who are attracted by the "glamour" of the TV shows.

You have to have seen every episode of csi! NOT!!!! It takes alot of hard work and LUCK to do this job. It's an oversubscibed degree course so they can be choosy on whom they let on. Good luck with it- I would also plan a back-up career/course in something else you find interesting!

Pathology, forensic or otherwise, is a branch of medicine. You need to become a qualified medic first and then select pathology as your field of interest.
