I noticed a lot of people giving negative ratings to correct answers on this question. The blood contains hemoglobin, a molecule that centers around iron and carries oxygen in the blood. Iron, when exposed to the oxygen in the air will oxidize and make blood seem a bright orangish-red color. However, blood within the body is not exposed to the same levels of oxygen. As it does not oxidize completely in the blood vessels, the blood is a darker color. While there is some difference between aterial (moving away from the heart, oxygenated) and venous (moving towards the heart, deoxygenated) blood, the overall color of the blood is still a deep red within the body. Blood will be darker, closer to a maroon if it is deoxygenated, and a brighter red if there is oxygen present to oxidize the hemoglobin.

Yes it is obviously red, but let me remind you that there are two types of blood, one is oxygenated and the other one is deoxygenated blood. The oxygenated blood is actually red, while the deoxygenated one is maroon.

deoxygenated - Slight pinch of blue Oxygenated - red.

Blood that goes to the heart is purple/red Blood that goes away from the heart is red

its actually blue it only turns red once it touche oxygen which is basically the only time we see it

Arterial blood is bright red, venous blood is not quite as bright but is still red; this is what the lab draws from your vein. It is a myth that blood is blue until it is outside the body; this can be shown by videos of blood seen with fiberoptic instruments. It is not really a maroon color in the veins, just a bit darker than arterial blood.

the blood moving away from the heart is dark red. the blood moving to the heart has a slightly purple hue to it.
