How is the job outlook for pharmacists?

I'm thinking about becoming a pharmacist, questions?

  • 1) I'm already in College and studying Biology. Is it possible for me to graduate with my bio degree and get into a pharmacy school? 2) How is the job outlook of pharmacists? I want to do something in the medical/science field where I can basically get a job right away and not be screwed like half of the US currently is.

  • Answer:

You probably don't need to actually complete your degree in order to enter a pharmacy program. Most programs require ~72 credit hours of general courses + science/math courses. These classes will also be necessary in order to do well on the PCAT. The PCAT is the qualifying test you must take to apply for pharmacy school. Pharmacy school will be another 2 years usually. If you are interested in pharmacy, please note, chemistry will need to be something you really grasp and understand, as most of the coursework is chemistry based. As for the job outlook, it's good. It's very good. Note that it is a job that often requires crummy schedules and working with the public. The below link lists requirements for many major pharmacy schools across the US. This will also give you an idea of what classes you need to take. http://www.aacp.org/resources/student/pharmacyforyou/admissions/Documents/PSAR-1213_narratives.pdf
