What types of bacteria will form a biofilm?
-
For a science fair project, I'm working with biofilms. Does anybody know what bacteria will form a biofilm with E. coli?
-
Answer:
Many different bacteria will form a biofilm. A good example is the thin layer of bacteria on your teeth, which will disappear if you brush them! Certain strains of Escherichia coli can form biofilms on its own, they do not need other species. But not all strains can do this! Other examples of bacteria that can form a biofilm on their own (or with others) are Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus mirabilis.
