Career path out of marine biology?

How should I pursue a career in marine biology?

  • I know I want to be a marine biologist..I aspire to study marine life and organisms. I am particularly interested in working with marine animals. I've done research on the career, so I have an idea of what a marine biologist actually does. However, the field is apparently very competitive. So, I was wondering what colleges offer a good program for marine biology and what to major/minor in. People say just to major in regular biology, but I'm unsure of what to do!

  • Answer:

Marine biology is the same as any other kind of biology, biology is the study of the cell and its processes in micro and macro scales. It wouldn't differ if you wanted to study entomology ( study of insects) you would still have to major in Biology. So I suggest you follow a B.S. in Biology and then go on to doing Graduate and Post-Graduate work since you remarked it is a competitive field. I have a Ph.D in Microbiology and Biochemistry from UC San Fransisco, This is a very reputable institution, attending this school will help you in the long run in get employed. This is my advice, hope it helps.
