What is a marine biologist?

Hello! Well, this might sound a little awkward but I want to sail around the world. I don't really know what my goal would be though. I was thinking "adventure" but is that a good enough reason to dedicate my life to the sea? So, I came up with the idea of being a marine biologist, yet, I don't fully understand what that is exactly. Please explain! I know I sound a bit silly right now but I need a little information. Any advice will work!! Thank you :)

Definitely understand where you are coming from. I'm also very interested in sailing all over and just doing cool things in and on water. But, I also have an extreme fasination with ocean life in all forms. I'm currently studying Marine Biology in CA and so far everything is going the way I want it to. I'm currently working two research projects, one is taking me to Catalina Island to scuba dive with cnadarians and studying phytoplankton. the other, I'll be studding coral reefs and phytoplankton in Taiwan all summer. Although sailing isn't part of the job, it definitely comes as a resume builder as someone that knows the oceans, winds, currents, tides and everything. It's definitely not frowned upon. But be ready for lots of traveling and amazing opportunities. Don't let me fool you though, it's extremely difficult and you must study A LOT of science, math, and chemistry to do it.
