How to make a alkaline water machine?

I need to make a simple water purification machine.?

  • I am doing an assignment for science and I have to make a simple device that purifies the water. He isnt measuring how much microbial activity is in it, hes measuring how much turbidity. And I'm not looking for a huge machine with iron and nails, and heating compartments. Im looking for something you could make with household items(tape, cloth, pins, paper, glasses etc.). The 3 people that get their water the cleanest get extra credit. I just need ideas. MUCH APPRECIATED

  • Answer:

Here's one way--it combines simple distillation with filtration, all the major components are a pot, a stove, some aluminum foil and a coffee filter: 1. Put your water sample in a pot on the stove and get it boiling. 2. Fold a piece of aluminum foil so that it creates a "V," mount that V upside down (so that the point of the V faces up) above the boiling water. Mount it on a slant, so that the part that is over the boiling water is higher than the other half. The steam will condense on the underside of your V, and since it's on a a slant, the condensed water will run down that V, away form the boiling pot, instead of just dripping back into it. 3. Right underneath the lowest part of your aluminum V, have a glass with a coffee filter holder and a coffee filter. The condensed water will drip into the glass through the filter. I would think it would be pretty clear at that point. Or, you could cheat and buy yourself one of those water filtration gizmos that they sell at the store...I didn't tell you that.
