Why did some chimps evolve into humans, and some remain chimpanzees?

Chimps evolved into humans...so what are humans going to evolve into?

  • I don't really believe in evolution, at least human evolution, I know other animals evolve, it's a proven fact, but I'm still all for God created humans. But anyway my question is, if evolution really did happen, and chimps evolved into humans, then in a few million years, what are humans going to be? You know if we don't kill each other off before then.

  • Answer:

Actually, humans did not evolve from chimps. The evidence shows that chimps and humans evolved from a common ancestor, which is a very different thing. What humans will eventually evolve into is a mystery to me. I'm concerned that our powerful medicines and increasingly effective lifesaving techniques will ultimately make human individuals weaker, on average, than we are today. But who knows? I won't be there to see.

the theory of evolution does not claim that humans evolved FROM chimps, but that both evolved from a common ancestor ... there is fossil evidence of this, as well as evidence of other human-like species that have since become extinct ... also, evolution is not a uni-directional phenomenon, so species do not evolve into higher forms, it is random ... if a higher form of intelligence does emerge, it is possible it will come from another branch ... alternatively, some, like Ray Kurzweil, believe that we, humans, are now agents of evolution, and our research into robotics and artificial intelligence will produce the next species I suggest reading The Structure of Evolutionary Theory by Steve Gould to become more versed on the topic also, I suggest to all we not confuse science with faith ... in music, there is an artistic / spiritual basis and a scientific basis ... in the same way, in our drive to make sense the world around us, both the spiritual and scientific have a place

Firts of all your basic premise is incorrect. Chimps did not evolve into Humans. We possibly had a common ancestor about 1 million years or more ago. Modern Cro-Magnon man appeared about 100,000 years ago sharing the environment with Neanderthal Man. If you want to discount human eveolution you will have to explain the presence of Neaderthal Man who was as close to us genetically as modern chimps are (94% same genes). We will always be Humaniod and bi-pedal. We will probably lose our little toes since we don't use them really. Our brains will probably get a little bigger. There is a good series of two books on the subject, "Darwin's Radio", and "Darwin's Children". It doesn't discount the hand of God in evolution. One of the main characters, a geneticist becomes religious because she has an experience of feeling the presence of God.

Chimps didn't evolve into humans. Chimps didn't evolve into anything - they are still here and they are still chimps! No scientist ever claimed that chimps evolved into humans. Silly statements like this are only made by people who have no concept of biological evolution, but who think for religious reasons that they shouldn't believe in it regardless of the supporting evidence. If such folks could offer an alternative theory that explains the gradual appearance of new species on earth ever since life began - something we know has happened - scientists would be extremely interested in such a theory.

If you are going to ask a question, you should get the facts correct. Man did not descend from chimps, the fact is that somewhere along the evolutionary chain man and the great apes shared a common ancestor. You would have us believe that we descended from apes and monkeys, nothing could be further from the truth. That is strictly erroneous babble from a closed creationist thinking mind. All animals will continue to evolve, some will die out as failed experiments and others will continue to evolve and adapt to the changing environment.

There is no way to predict how we may evolve or what species may arise from ours in the future. This is dependent on a number of factors that cannot themselves be predicted. Evolution is the way creatures adapt to their environments. What happens to our planet will shape how we evolve. In addition, the mutations that drive change in a species are random. Between the random changes in the environment and within our genes the spectrum is far to wide to determine what path we will end up on. Hate to break it to ya but humans are just another species of animal. You probably believe the Earth is the center of the universe too don't you?

haven't you seen aliens? That is what we will look like when we start diddling in space.

Chimps did not evolve into humans. Chimps and humans share a distant ancestor; just like you are decended from your great grandfather and you have cousins who don't look anything like you. Creationism is flawed. There is no evidence to support it. None. That's why it is a weak hypothesis, not a theory. Evolution has tons of evidence, it is a fact. The theory involves the mechanisms behind the fact, just like germ theory or gravitational theory. Theories behind the FACTS. If you want support for your faith in creationism, please ask in a religious category. Posting a belief in creationism in a science category looks really, REALLY ignorant.

According to a teacher i had last semester,we're gonna evolve into humas with gills and fins.. Bcoz of all the global warming happening the earth's ice regions will melt flooding the earth. To survive we're goNna evolve into Homo aquaticus. (seems thats the name given by scientists who came up with this theory. She had read it somewhere)
