What can help with insomnia that isn't sleep aids?

i need help with insomnia./a better sleep pattern but dont want to use medicines/sleep aids as i have anxiety and worry about side effects and etc. what works to relieve insomnia besides medicine??

Hi Evelyn, I've struggled with sleep problems on and off for a couple of years. As a registered nurse I too worry about the side effects of taking over the counter or prescription sleep medicine. These are some of the things I have done to help me sleep better. Cut out all caffeine - at least temporarily until your sleep pattern improves Reduce sugar from your diet as this stimulates the body Exercise for at least a 1/2 hour each day Get out into the sun, especially in the morning to help set your circadian rhythm After supper, try to dim your lights. Darkness promotes melatonin. Use a small lamp in your bathroom instead of bright overhead lighting when washing up or brushing your teeth.
