Can orthotricylen cause blood clots?
-
the last two days my leg has been cramping, hurting, a little burning, and tingling. It started in my calf and has now moved up to my thigh. I do not have any swelling, I don't feeling in vein or anything sticking out and my leg is not hot. I have been on birth control for about a month and it has caused some very weird and strange symptoms. I have Lupus and I went into a flare after I started taking this pills. But if I want to keep the only ovary I have left the doctor says I have to take it. I do not know what to do. But if you have any information on blood clots please let me know.

Answer:
Taking birth control pills is one of the major risk factors for developing blood clots. However, the symptoms as you describe them, does not sound like a clot. If you have a blood clot, symptoms typically include some/all of the following symptoms, pain with dorsiflexion (bring the top of your foot closer to your shin), calf/leg pain, swelling of the limb (below the level of the clot), pain, discoloration, possible difference in temperature from the one limb to the other. However, even if you do not have these symtpoms, but still have concerns, you should call your physician...your symptoms could also be a result of your lupus.

funny you should mention that cause i took the same kinda of pills and had the same wierd side effects. I went to see a doctor and he ran test and couldn't find anything wrong. I look up more information on it nothing. All birthcontrol has blood clots as one of its sideeffects. But they say it's rare and I don't think you can get it that quickly. But I'm like you worring about the same thing. Maybe you should switch birthcontrols i stop taking mine. If you want to talk further. reach Me at [email protected].

All contraceptive pills may increase the risk of blood clotting. That's one of the reasons why they are not recommended for women who smoke and are over 35 years old. Despite you must take them (it's hazardous -to the baby-that a woman with Lupus becomes pregnant), you must also visit your physician. He/She can perform a series of blood tests and imaging studies (venous doppler) to know if you are experiencing some kind of thrombosis (clot) or if this is an exacerbation of Lupus.
