I'm going to visit a gynecologist for my first time. How should I prepare beforehand?
-
Recently my menstrual cycle has been going on for a month and hasn't stopped. My mom made an appointment, and I want to know what to expect, and how to prepare beforehand. What's worse is that my local gynecologist is a man. I'm really nervous, and feel like I might reconsider going. What do you all suggest, and how was your first visit like? By the way I'm sixteen.

Aww don't worry, they see it all the time(haha). I've only been there once when I was 13 because of a smell. And first, we just sat there in his office explaining that I have a smell down there. Then we went in the exam room and they expect you to remove your pants and underwear then lie on the matress and put your feet in the stirrups then he took a look. But since you're on your period I don't think you're gonna have to remove your underwear since you'll leak. Then he gave me meds for infection. I should mention something *very* embarrassing: it was very hard to trim that area before and well I'm kinda hairy so the gyno actually took a flashlight to see :( So make sure it's trim just in case gyno takes a look. Oh and when you know the answer to your problem will you please email me because I had the same problem but mine was for 3 weeks and ever since my period has been SEVERELY irregular (sometimes comes every week, sometimes stays for 2-3 weeks straight, sometimes comes every 2 months or more....) So just don't worry about it, it's their profession so to them it's like breathing. It's just a body part. Good luck :)

ive been to a gyno once, though it was for a different issue. i was 14 when i went and i can tell you now, i was terrified. even though i saw a man, he was really really nice and my mum was in the room with me the whole time. i didnt have a physical exam done (thank goodness).....since yours is only for period issues they might only put you on medication (contraceptive pills), and that might be all they do. but you never know all the best!

Don't be scared.I went for the first time when I was 16(now 21) and was also scared as hell because mine was also a man. Although I must admit,He kept it very Professional and made me feel very comfortable.I have been going to him ever since.Went to a female one once and OMG never again. She was so rough and hurt me alot. The man was more gentle and knew what he was doing.Felt way more comfy.

For his sake, shave it or trim it up nice and neat.
