Irregular period (on the pill)?
-
So I started taking birth control september 2010 before going into college for anemia, heavy blood flow, and really bad cramping. For the first half year my period was normal--blood flow seemed less heavy and the cramping was nothing more than just being slightly uncomfortable. However, this past May I noticed that when my period week was supposed to be over, I started spotting until my next period in June (I thought I was pregnant, I had gained 36 pounds my first year of college). My June period was fine, but when my July period came I spotted again in between periods. But then my period became normal once again. How what has me baffled is that my period came on time for October when I got to the end of my monthly pack, had no spotting afterwards, but then had my period three weeks later when I was 3/4ths of the way done with my pill packet. I thought nothing of it at first, but then again I had my period three weeks later when I was 2/4ths of the way done with my next pill packet. But I had a light spotting for that first week then had a heavy flow for the next week (2 week period). Again, I was in my finals for school so I thought it was stressed related. Now, in December, my period has come again (2nd time this month) while finishing 2/4ths of my new pill packet. Unlike the first time it came halfway through my packet, my period is extremely heavy and my cramping is still tolerable but hurts a bit more than usual. Why is my period becoming so irregular when I was doing just fine before? Is it because I gained a lot of weight (36 pounds) at first but since then I have lost 25 pounds? I am pretty active since I exercise almost every day but I don't overdo it. My eating habits have been a little on the bad side this past month, is that affecting it as well now? Should I see my doctor to get my pill changed? Otherwise, I feel fine, I just am not used to my period doing this since I have had it for 10 years now and it's been fairly normal...

Answer:
In total I've had 2 different contraceptive pills that I;ve been on to calm down my heavy bleeding. Sometimes the pill just doesn't suit people so I'd go to your doctor and let them know whats happening and see if they can try you on a different pill. If that doesn't work then maybe the pill just isn't suited to you.
