I was sooooo worried and scared as well but honestly it's really not that bad. It's a little awkward since they're checking down there but they are all professionals and its for your well being. Basically when you get into the exam room they will ask you to take all your clothes off behind a curtain and get into a paper gown. After you go and sit on the table and the nurse will ask you several questions such as: are you sexually active, how many partners, are your periods regular, do you take birth control, is there any history of breast or ovarian cancer in your family, etc. They will also ask you if you have an questions or concerns for them. Afterwards the doctor will come in and she will give you a breast exam to feel for any lumps and will also teach you how to do it which needs to be done every month after your period. Then she will ask you to lay back, put your legs in the stirrups, and slid your toosh all the way down to the bottom (this was probably the most painful part for me....opening my legs but just remember they're professionals and have see it all!) She will then feel the outside for any lumps then will lube up an applicator she will insert in your vagina....all you feel is pressure, it doesn't hurt at all. She will also be telling you everything she does or see...at least most of them do. At that stage she will look up with a light and look for any abnormal lumps, discharge or skin discoloration. She may also swab some discharge on the outside of your cervix (again it doesnt hurt but feels funny) and test it for a STI just to start fresh with you and make sure everything is alright. As for a pap smear I can't help you on....My doctor said she'll start that once I turn 21. ANyway, I hope that I have helped you and remember it really isn't that bad...so relax and REMEMBER don't tense up or it will hurt! Good luck

The pelvic exam and pap smear may be a bit uncomfortable, but nothing about it should be painful at all. The doctor will start by checking your breasts for lumps and nipples for discharge to rule any signs or symptoms if breast cancer. He (or she) will then palpate your abdomen to feel your ovaries from the outside. To do this, he will insert two fingers into your vagina and press from the outside to make sure that neither of your ovaries are over sized and where they should be. For the internal exam, doctor will have you put your feet up in the stirrups on the exam table and then insert an instrument called a speculum into your vagina. This opens and holds you open just enough for the doctor to see and examine you internally for any abnormalities. During this time, he will also use a long cotton swab to obtain a few tiny scrapings from your cervix to send to the lab. This will check you for any cervical cancer or other abnormalities. It all only takes less than ten minutes and is not as bad as most girls think. Its very important to have this done yearly so that you can stay healthy. Too many horrible things can develop and you wouldn't know without these exams. Please don't worry. We've all been where you are. When you're done, take yourself out for a treat.

Well you have to take all of your clothes off and put on a paper dress. Then he/she introduces themselves and usually start with a breast exam, they just feel around to make sure they're aren't any lumps or anything. Then they start the pelvic exam where they put these metal tong things into your vagina to hold it open. The person will stick a couple fingers in there to feel for any infections. Then they'll swab the inner walls to test the cells for infections. It's not painful, just slightly uncomfortable.
I want to know that too, i wanna know what happens and everything. Im nervous about my first visit. as you can tell i asked the same question like 20 mins ago haha. best of luck

Well let me tell you what happens. Don't be scared I had mine this summer and I am 14. First thing your mom will have to fill out paper works and they will call your name if you want your mom to come in with you she can. They first will check your weight and height. They then will give you a cup and show you to the bathroom so that you can give them a urine sample they will not watch you. After that the nurse will bring you back to a exam room where she will check your temp pulse and blood pressure. After that the nurse will ask you to undressed completely. This might freaked you out because it freaked me out to but you will be given a gown to put on. The nurse will leave so that you can get into the gown. If there isn't a curtain to change behind and if you are uncomfortable getting undressed from your mom you can ask her to step outside. When you are all changed into your gown the doctor and nurse will knock and ask to come in. The doctor will ask you about your period and your sex life. My doctor ask my my to wait outside when she was talking to me about this. And when the time for the exam she let her back in. The first thing the doctor did was look at my boobs and feel around for any lumps. He then asked me to scoot down to the end of the table. This part might be scarier but its not scary at all but little bit uncomfortable. When you scoot down the doctor will take out the stirrups you will have to put your feet up in them. You legs will be spread apart. The nurse will put a drape over your legs for modesty. The doctor will examine the instead inside by putting a speculum in he will probably do a pap smear in witch he will take a q- tip and swab all around your inside. If you don't want your mom in the exam room you can ask her to stay in the waiting room but you will have a nurse in the exam room. You can also request a mirror so that you can see what's going on. If you have any questions you can email me Anything you say to your doctor is private and will not tell your mom I would ask your mom to get a female doctor for you I was uncomfortable with a male doctor
