What is the best way to learn drawing anime?

It is my dream to become an anime/manga artist, but how? Also manga drawing programs for the computer?

  • Okay, i know how to draw anime first of all, im not F ing awesome at it but im alright, i know that i still need to learn some more things (well heaps of things) but i will in time. 1st of all what i would like to know is if there is anywhere i can go to after i finish school like a collage that studies in that type of thing (manga and anime in general) or something 2nd, what kinda programs can i buy that will enhance the way my drawing looks (like adding colour and tone to it and stuff) and is there such this as a drawing pad that connects to your computer so when you draw on it, it like transfers to your computer or something? (just wondering) and how do people draw so well using there computers?? is there a program for that as well?? (is it possibly to become a professional anime artist [like have your own anime show] if you aren't japanese?) 3rd if i wanted to go over to japan and try and get a job over there creating and drawing manga/anime how would i do it?? (i just read on this other yahoo answer that is wasn't a good idea to do that cause it meant to be really harsh, is this true??) PLease and thank you

    1. being a mangaka/comic artist may look easy but it's not, its enjoyable and yet annoying especially if the editor is demanding or you need to meet you deadlines. 2. As for programs, Adobe Photoshop CS series is recommended. You will also be needing a drawing tablet. Check this Wen's art, it's a very good sample I can give you: http://wen-jr.deviantart.com/art/Ulquiorra-Schiffer-90431387 In my case, what I do is: 1. Draw on a paper (usually Letter size, but companies mostly recommended A4) 2. Re-trace it on a Tracing paper 3. Scan it (using a scanner) on my computer 4. Edit until clean using Adobe Photoshop Optional: 5. Color it if you want or make it look like manga-style (B&W) using Adobe Photoshop most animators & manga artist also do the same, as I seen it in some cable show, NHK channel actually, how authors make their manga (raw art), their assitant re-tracing it in tracing paper, and editing it on computer. 3. If you have plans of going to Japan, I mostly recommend that you work first in your country comic/publishing company. It's better if you gain some experience first since Japan is kinda strict on requirements. Joining in some contest is also a good thing (especially if you won). =)

If I can give you one piece of advice that I think will help you a lot later on it would be to network. All the greatest people who got to where they are now did some excellent networking to get there. Meet people and make friends in high places. It will help you a lot in the long run. Hone your skill and get as good as you can at it, but also do a lot of networking along the way. If you can't draw anime in Japan you can still do it in America. ^.^ Micheal Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko proved that when they created Avatar: Last Airbender.

1.) You can go to an art college, that way you'll have a chance to do realistic artwork as well. I also want to be a manga/comic book artist, and I'm attending an arts and design college next fall. 2.) I hear Manga Studio is a good program to have to work on comics. Also look into art programs like GIMP and Photoshop. Also you may be thinking of a Graphics tablet. With this you can hand-draw pictures onto the computer. I don't have one yet, but it's basically what you described above lol. You can get Manga Studio here: http://my.smithmicro.com/dr/manga_debut4.html You can find some Graphics Tablets here: http://www.wacom.com/index2.php 3. I know you can get a job teaching in Japan, but I'm not sure about going and becoming an artist over there. Hope this helps!!! =)
