    I assume that "D" are either the "chosen ones" or the family of "D", this includes cousins as well. Gol D. Roger Portgas D. Ace Monkey D. Luffy Monkey D. Dragon Monkey D. Garp. The three "Monkey" are related and Ace & Roger are related. Though, these two groups have "D" in them. My assumption is that they are cousins. I conclude that the first person who was "D" had two sons which adapted into two groups which are Monkey D. Garp's seed and Gol D. Roger's seed. This could go further back to Roger's father and Garp's father who both have "D", all the way up to the First Man who had "D". It kind of out there, but that what also makes it interesting.

Gol D Roger is Luffy's Uncle, and Dragon is Luffy's dad and Garp is Gold Rogers and Dragons father and Luffy's grandpa. Ace is Luffy's real brother. What the D means hasn't been explained yet but we just know that whoever has the D in their name ends up being famous for something or infamous.
