How do we know people character by looking at their signature?

What Are Some Nice Fails For a Character?

  • Alright, so I am creating a character here. I would rather not reveal who... Why am I looking for fails for this character? BECAUSE I DON'T WANT A DARN MARY-SUE. So I am turning to you people because nothing else crosses my mind (I'm sorry, I know this is being uncreative...just give me some ideas please. We all get a little mind block sometime) at what she can be awful at. However also take into account what she is good at. Two lists have been placed in this... I don't know... yahoo question... saying what she is good at (second) and what she fails at (first). Please look at them. :) Fails: Forgetful, easily distracted, misunderstands other people/characters, can be childish, multiple personalities/bipolar, indecisive, hardly takes anything seriously, slightly superstitious (about ghosts and such), very gullible, no impulse control!!!, easily flustered, is quite paranoid, bad at dealing with issues, procrastinates, somewhat vain, cannot drive at all, nor is she good at flying planes, awful with guns/aim, bad with mechanical (except video games) items Wins: Singing, baking/cooking, cleaning, dancing, hand to hand awesomeness combat/athletic stuff and being ninja-ish (sneaking/graceful wise, not at all in weaponry) I know the lists are very different in size... BUT STILL! More fails are needed!!! If you have suggestions to more stuff she can be good at I may also consider those. Fails are most needed though. Also if you think any of her fails are stupid tell me. For what she's good at too. I will be open to criticism, just please don't stab my heart out with mean, negative comments. Thanks! P.S. This is in the right category since it is for a comic character. :)

  • Answer:

I think your character should suit the narrative and style. If you're having problems characterising them start writing them into situations and have them handle it badly or well. It doesn't matter too much what your character is good or bad at as long as it drives the narrative. Sorry I'm not directly helping, but I think picking a failing from a list someone has given you is going to give you a far less believable character than just throwing the character into a situation and watching them handle it.
