C&A: Does it discourage you from pursuing a series if the characters are aware that they're animated?
-
When the charcaters of the series are given full wareness that they're animated, or awareness that they were drawn by the author and they give obvious hints or they make references to it, for example, in the middle of the episode theres a conversation between two of the characters in the series, one of them asks "What episode are we in right now?", the other one responds by saying "I believe this is Episode 15", or if one of the characters asks "What happened to your face?", and the other one replys by saying "thats simply the way I was drawn in this scene". Just a couple of examples of the characters having a sort of "Awareness" of not bieng real. Does this sort of discourage you from continuing the series? Does the series seem less believable to you when this happens? Bonus: 1)When the creator of the series writes the script so the characters reference his/her name and gives credit to thier name, does it give you a message about the personality of the person that created it? 2)Do you think every animated character should always be oblivious to wether they're animated or not? 3)Do you think the characters knowing that thier animated raises the comedy aspect of the series?, do you really believe its all that funny? Note: For these questions you DONT have to limit yourself to only one Animation-type, the question directed at pretty much any series that is Animated. Answer:
Seitokai no Ichizon begins with a reference to the inherent differences between media (manga vs. anime adapation). This doesn't bother me at all. I like the fact that one of the characters voices disagreement to the idea of an anime adaptation and insists that a drama CD would have been enough to satisfy the fans. 1) No. Kouji Kumeta got away with that and more. It's not a problem. 2) No, not always. 3) It certainly can. Homer Simpson once made a statement to the tune of "Not everything in cartoons has to be completely realistic" as he sat on the couch in the living room of the family home. Meanwhile, a second Homer Simpson is seen outside the home walking past the window. As for whether I believe breaking the fourth wall is funny or not, that depends on who's writing the material. From what has aired so far, I certainly believe Seitokai no Ichizon is funny and half of the jokes in that series are aimed at geeks who watch every currently airing show there is, even children's anime. Since AV nerds and eroge addicts are their audience, the jokes in which the characters reference the fact that they're in an animated series work much better than they would in, say, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 or some series with more weighty content. Sometimes, these kinds of jokes have to be in moderation. Lucky Star can pack in as many industry jokes as they can fit in 22 minutes, but shows like Bakemonogatari, where story progression actually matters to some extent, must limit itself. Senjougahara once referred to herself as a tsundere, which was just enough I think to break the tension and repressed sexual undertones of every line of dialogue in that show for a much needed "reset", as it were, in the viewer's mind. In a pure slapstick show or any show where the premise itself revolves around Akiba culture, it's not really a problem if the characters break the fourth wall all the time. In a show with a distinct progressive storyline, care must be taken to avoid dragging the viewer too far out of the experience. So even if it's a comedic show, if there's some plot that has to ultimately get unraveled, then it's best for the jokes to remain in the same world as the characters and not break that barrier. As for the picture, here's one that's slightly relevant to the thread (but just barely): http://ls.hi-hi.jp/url/0/84e.html

I would continure the series because its funny when they know they are animated. Its actually better sometimes, it shows their natural side. Its like going behind the scenes which is cool imo. 1) Not really, its good to let the audience know who the creator is it helps us know if we want to watch other series that they have created. 2) Heck no, some anime characters should know that they are animated it makes the series much more funnier. I love comedies. 3) YES YES AND YES. It makes it so much funnier. They can crack jokes which you cant in anime's that arent aware that they are animated. Picture Bonus: Lol funny

I think it's a little funnier that way :D 1) Not really, maybe they just want you to know who made it, in case you don't already 2) Nah, breaking the 4th wall can be a good thing, and they can figure out they can do even stupider things if they know 3) Yeah, it gives more possibilities for the actions Picture bonus) Did the car back up into the police car, or did the police car hit the other car o_o;

It matters on how they write(draw) it in. B1. I don't know I've only come across that once or twice and the anime was pretty good so I shrug it off. B2. If its a hardcore storyline anime not a comedy I don't think its appropriate, but like I said its how you add it to the series. B3. It could its how they put it in the series. Rofl on the pic

Haha, no I love them if they don't do it too often. 1-Depending on the way they say it, yes 2-Not EVERY one, I think having some that allude to it is interesting 3-Yes, I do. But only if, as I said, it's a once-in-a-while thing. Not EVERY EPISODE. *Hahaha, it was a chuckler.
Generally, yes it does. I just don't think thats funny. There is one exception, Seitokai no Ichizon, because that show is hilarious Bonus: 1)When the creator of the series writes the script so the characters reference his/her name and gives credit to thier name, does it give you a message about the personality of the person that created it? ► I don't like that, it makes them seem very cocky and isn't really funny 2)Do you think every animated character should always be oblivious to wether they're animated or not? ► Not every character, there are a few exceptions, but yes for the majority 3)Do you think the characters knowing that thier animated raises the comedy aspect of the series?, do you really believe its all that funny? ► Nope Picture Bonus: What do you think of this pic? lol 8/10

Hello! I think it's kinda funny XD 1)When the creator of the series writes the script so the characters reference his/her name and gives credit to thier name, does it give you a message about the personality of the person that created it? >>Yeah kinda lol 2)Do you think every animated character should always be oblivious to wether they're animated or not? >>Not every character/show, but it is funnier in comedy genre shows. 3)Do you think the characters knowing that thier animated raises the comedy aspect of the series?, do you really believe its all that funny? >>Yes, but just as long as they don't point it out too much nor break the 4th wall too often. Does this sort of discourage you from continuing the series? Does the series seem less believable to you when this happens? It's deff supposed to be unrealistic if they're doing that...but I haven't watched many shows (aside from series like Animaniacs) that do that often. o.O; Nah, it doesn't turn me off...I think it's funny. Setokai no Ichizon does it occasionally too. Bonus: 1)When the creator of the series writes the script so the characters reference his/her name and gives credit to thier name, does it give you a message about the personality of the person that created it? I'm not sure I've seen something exactly like that, but I've seen similar circumstances... In Kampfer they keep referencing the voice actors which I think it kind of funny and I found out recently that the writer of D. Gray-Man portrays herself as Cross often in their little after comic blurbs (I just started reading the manga)...I guess in this way it does say a lot about the writers and creators of the show. 2)Do you think every animated character should always be oblivious to wether they're animated or not? Nah...Yakko, Wakko and Dot knew they were animated... ^__^ And I love them for it! Plus, in Setokai no Ichizon they named all my fave shows in one episode...which made me really happy. 3)Do you think the characters knowing that thier animated raises the comedy aspect of the series?, do you really believe its all that funny? *shrug* I think it's funny...it's not hilarious but it's interesting. Note: For these questions you DONT have to limit yourself to only one Animation-type, the question directed at pretty much any series that is Animated. Picture Bonus: What do you think of this pic? Haha. Love it.

no, sometimes i think it's better that they know. Bonus: 1)When the creator of the series writes the script so the characters reference his/her name and gives credit to thier name, does it give you a message about the personality of the person that created it? dunno- 2)Do you think every animated character should always be oblivious to wether they're animated or not? depends on the genre- like if it's an fighting/action type, then no. but if it a comedy (scool based?) type then it's ok 3)Do you think the characters knowing that thier animated raises the comedy aspect of the series?, do you really believe its all that funny? sorta, it depends on what they are talking about Picture Bonus: What do you think of this pic? lolz. looks like you can't leap frog with cars... http://media.photobucket.com/image/i%20once%20gave%20up%20anime/TEAMSETH101/DieWithoutAnime.jpg?o=9 http://www.eylence.az/blogs/media/16_27.jpg http://www.gadjunk.com/pics/FunnySportsAccidents002.jpg
