  Sense of purpose means that spiritual connection we all have as to the sense that there is a REASON we are here, born in a place, in a time, to the parents we happen to have, and that we have continued until this very moment. Sense of purpose, like ALL other senses must be trained and practiced wisely to be helpful and productive. Used without training it is like a two year old driving a cement mixer. It also must be used wisely, and that wisdom which we find strictly internally is almost nil, nothing. As a proof look to those children lost at a very early age to the wild, a very rare situation, but it happens maybe once a generation. The child becomes feral, and is unable to talk, or behave like we think of as a human. Instead they behave like a wild chimpanzee and if over 12 years old are nearly wholly unable to be trained to live in the company of fellow humans. What we call humanity is actually a VERY fragile thing. Wisdom, true wisdom, comes handed down carefully from generation to generation. One of the greatest sense of HUMAN purpose is therefore expected to be found, and is indeed found, in passing down the legacy and wisdom of human civilization from our generation to the next ones. Morals, ethics,. love and fear of G-d. Those are the BASICS. All other human skills are cherished and important, but without the basics they are lost. No long term goal is happy that does not involve that greatest of purposes. Short term goals? Getting the next task done right is good enough!
