God said do not add to his word or take away from it, so what does private interpretation mean?
-
If no one can add even one word to God's word, or take away one word from it, and in this context, interpret God's word, then what does private interpretation mean and how can so many here answer questions without giving pure Scripture answers?
-
Answer:
2 Peter 1:20, "Knowing this first, that NO prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation." The Bible interprets itself. The Holy Spirit gives us the understanding: John 16:13, "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come." You do not need another person to give you interpretation/teachings: 1 John 2:27, "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him."

"Truth"bearer, how can you deny the verses that Anna posted as invalid? How is it that you get to set these ambiguous rules that these things were untrue unless they were repeated later in Scripture? Is THAT stated any where in Scripture, or are you taking the liberty to decide what is valid and what is not? The Bible clearly states that Emmanuel, Mighty God, and Everlasting Father are all titles that belong to Jesus. Unless you do not believe the Bible, then you can not pick and choose from it. And if you do not believe it, then your entire question is irrelevant from your standpoint. WORD WAS MADE FLESH: John 1:1, 14-17 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ." YOU DENY THAT THIS PASSAGE REFERS TO JESUS? Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. AND THIS??!? ONLY ONE VIRGIN BIRTH THAT I'M AWARE OF!! Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. JESUS SAID: I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE, CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN. "And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me." (John 6:35-38) APOSTLE THOMAS SAID: My GOD/THE GOD "And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God." - (literally: the Lord of me and THE God of me") SHOW PROOF of YOUR INTERPRETATIONS: "It blinds you to the fact that Emmanuel was the INNER man" "Jesus ate the flesh which is the word." "They never said Jesus is God. or the word. He is our God, and that is what confuses people." And more of your INTERPRETATIONS from your profile: "God beget his Son in the heart/soul, of Jesus Christ, not in Mary's womb." "Jesus was born of a virgin, yet he is the virgin who bore the Emmanuel." "I do not have room here to fully explain this." ??? You mean, to give us YOUR private interpretations, as you have done so, up to this point? SJC - Read Luke 23:39-43 "And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise." (Luke 23:39-43) Was this man baptized before his death? Was he saved? There's your proof. Additional: After reading your latest comments, I can STILL see that your beliefs do not match up with the entire Bible, but are of your own interpretation and Scripture twisting. For you to claim that your interpretations do not add to the Scriptures would be as valid as me saying that unless you can find verses that specifically state that it is permissible to eat candy on the second day of the week, then it is obviously forbidden. It's simply not in there. Your arguments are so far off from the overall message of the Bible, that the Word of God simply doesn't have the need to preach against them specifically. The very thing you are warning against is the same thing you have fallen prey to. You do not teach the same things that Jesus taught, nor the apostles, but another gospel. The only benefit that comes out of your statements above is that you encourage others to read their Bibles, and you make them aware of the dangers of false prophets. It is my prayer that this is the message that will be absorbed by any on-lookers. It is better to trust in the YHWH than to put confidence in man. (Psalms 118:8) If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. (James 1:5) God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar.. (Romans 3:4) Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. (Acts 5:29) These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (Acts 17:11) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? (Luke 11:13) "And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many." (Matthew 24:11) "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not." (2 Peter 2:1-3) Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1)
♥Blessed♥ Ps118:8 Rom3:4 Act5:29
If you cannot prove a false teaching wrong using only scripture, then maybe you haven't got the true teaching. Jesus turned the devil away by simply quoting scripture. This is our sword of the spirit. Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Are you being convicted of private interpretation? --- EDIT --- Oh you mean like this? Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Psalm 50:1-5 The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined. Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice. Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. John 1:1,3,14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. Phil 2:6-7 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men Psalm 68:17-18 The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place. Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them. Eph 4:8-10 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) 1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. ------ No offense dear, but that sounds like private interpretation to me! Eh, He put His word into the mouth of Jesus by putting His word in flesh. Jesus is the Word, creator of all, you seemed to have missed that part. Not one thing came into being without God's Word. *************************** Edit again... Jo, if the point of this question is to show us how we should not add to scripture, could you please explain why MY answer makes so much sense without a separate website explaining it, and why you have to explain it with MUCH that is added to scripture? Not only this, but I do believe you just denied the virgin birth of our Savior? What exactly do you think THIS verse means? Matt 1:20-25 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS. This scripture needs no further explanation and CLEARLY says Jesus is Emmanuel, and MARY is the virgin. Please read the Bible.

There is a second Witness to bible teachings. The bible does state the concepts in accordance to God's Will through the Holy Spirit. These verses teach that the prophets had the Holy Spirit and did not speak of their own accord. 2 Peter 1 19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. ___ Another witness to these verses is: 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: and Romans 15: 4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. 5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: ___ The verses in 2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. can be applied to false prophets and appropriately so. Here is why - 1. Jesus is the Way False teachers will claim they are the way and often claim the only way. There is not an allowance that God has many workers in the field teaching His Word and Way. 2. Jesus is the Truth There are many groups and men or groups of leaders that have claimed to be 'the truth'. Without pointing fingers the people that claim to be the truth need to be carefully and critically examined as to whether they have been consistent in the simplicity of our Lord Christ Jesus. Some groups have used various name or 'evolved' over time claiming at each turn and change to be the 'truth' of God and later changed their truth. This is quite different than a light shined into darkness but rather a changing light as the false teaching gets caught out. 3. Jesus is the Life Today the is many groups that teach new age abundance ideas. These are That by our own power and by entitlement a person can 'name it and claim it' or 'blab it and grab it". A person that claims and blabs does not receive what they want it puts it back on God as an ill provider or that the person suffers because God disapproves or hates them. Jesus is the life and through faith in Jesus a Christian may be in the most direst of situations yet be at peace because of the promise and grace at the end of the race.

The Holy Ghost leads us into ALL truth. Also consider Isaiah 28:10: For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: One thing I find very hard to understand is how so many people INSIST water baptism is not necessary; yet do not back that up with even one single scripture! Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is BAPTIZED shall be SAVED; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Blessings! *ADDED* Blessed, the thief on the cross was under the LAW, NOT GRACE.
