Is my usage of the colon in this sentence accurate?

Would I put a semi-colon/colon in this sentence? If not, then how would I set it up?

  • "Art is beautiful. It doesn't matter what 'type' of art it is: Art, Music, Literature. It's all inspiring. " I'm trying to write something for class, and this is what I want to say, but I feel like the punctuation is all wrong. I'm not sure if there should be a semi-colon, a colon, a comma, or a period. Please help, Thank you :)

  • Answer:

Art is beautiful; it doesn't even matter what type of art it is: paintings, music, literature. It's all inspiring.
