Can I track USPS First-Class Mail® Parcel mail ?

• I think I have made a big mistake. I sent a 1bl parcel to China on Dec.31,2009. It's the 39th day today. It hasn't arrived yet. And I can't track it !!! That day I was told by the post office clerk that it could arrive China after 10 days. Now none knows where is it. It's the 1st time I ship by USPS. Can anyone help me here? LC288442828US.

  I have worked at a UPS store for over a year now (which is a business owned by my father so i've grown up around shipping). Normal 1st class mail is not trackable. They give you a confirmation number which verifies when the package has arrived, it does not tell you anything about where it is, who has handled it or when it is expected to arrive. Within 39 days your package should have arrived to china. The average wait time is about 3-4 weeks to Asia. The problem with shipping internationally with the post office is that you are giving it to 2 different companies to handle. unlike UPS or Fedex who will handle the package all the way until it's delivery, the USPS will simply ship it to China and hand it over to the Chinese postal service to complete delivery. If there is anything wrong with the package as far customs is concerned the package will be stopped completely and denied. If there is a tariff or tax to be paid they will contact the recipient in order to see if they're willing to pay the duties. So in this case, i would assume that it is stuck in customs and they are unable to contact the recipient, in which case they will discard it after a set time. And given the success rate of USPS packages it is not at all out of the realm of possibility that the package was destroyed or lost. never use USPS if you REALLY want your package to arrive.
