What is the Best way to learn American English?

  • What do you think is the best way to undertsnad american english perfectly and then speak it like americans. Keep in mind that your advicing people for whom english is second language. I Think this is a useful question as i have seen of people here(from india) suck when they take TOEFL exam. Just looking whether your answers are of any help, i expect so. Thanks in advance

    If you have access to American television shows, watch a lot of them. We don't speak the king's (British) English, which is what is taught in most foreign countries. We use a lot of slang and contractions, among other things. And we also spell and pronounce a lot of words differently. Reading books by American authors would help somewhat, but you still would not know how we pronounce things, or how we like to run words together.

grab a friend who speaks the language well, decide on a novel that each person will find interesting, both read the book on their own, and after every 3 chapters they should discuss together what they've read. It's not enough to just speak the language in order to understand it - read, read, and read some more!!
