How do we calculate when the animal is going to be extinct?

How do you calculate a product's retail price if you're going to sell it in two different sizes?

  • I plan on selling a specific carrier oil in two different volume sizes, 50ml and 100ml. I was considering retailing the 50ml bottle of oil at $25.00 and tacking on a 40% price difference for the larger size 100ml bottle of oil. The price would not include the shipping/handling or taxes. How do you calculate a product's retail price when you're going to be selling it in two different volume sizes or net wgt? What's an acceptable price difference to charge for an item with varying vol. size or net weight in usual business practices for retailing or manufacturing?

  • Answer:

It depends on the cost of the product to you. There is little difference in the cost of packaging and handling of the product except for the cost of the materials and the shipping. The cost difference between the 2 containers is probably minimal. What is the actually cost difference to you between the 2 sizes? Take that cost difference, add your standard price mark-up, and you have the price you should charge. If you add 40% to the cost of the smaller container to get your retail price, add the same 40% to what it costs you for the larger size. The cost difference may not be much but you're still making your profit. If you check in various stores for the price difference between of you will find that sometimes the price is not always linear. A product that sell for $5.00 for 16 ounces may only cost $6.50 for 32 ounces. Make an honest profit for both sizes and you really can't go wrong.
