How long does USPS take to deliver a package?

How long should USPS take to deliver a package?

  • I had a friend send me some parts for my motorcycle last thursday. He lives in CA and I live in NY. The parts fit in a flat rate priority box. I assume it has a weight of about 12lbs. The USPS website said that it would take 2-3 days to deliver the package, but I havn't gotten anything yet. I assumed the package would show up and didn't bother with tracking. Since it has been 9 business days already, how long should I wait for the parts? What do I do if they don't show up by then? I need them soon!

  • Answer:

2-3 days is the "Average" transit time for Priority Mail. When it has been 14 days after the date of mailing, the sender should make a lost mail report at usps.com. That is 14 days, NOT business days. Unfortunately, without any sort of confirmation service or insurance used, there is no way to track down where the package might be. It is possible that if the package was not properly prepared with adequate cushioning and such, it may have ruptured, and the parts are in a Mail Recovery Center. This is what the lost mail report can do. It can alert USPS as to what is missing and the MRC is notified of what to look for. Good Luck

the slowest way is their GROUND service and 9 days is too long. Get the tracking number and you can look it up online or call their 800 number- you can find out exactly where it is at any given moment.
