Job application at Barnes and Noble?

Okay im 16, and looking for a job. i went to barnes and noble and asked for an application, does that mean....?

  • theyre hiring? cause a friend of mine said that they always hand out applications, but they arnt necessarily looking for new "booksellers"

  • Answer:

Your friend is right. Lots of places will accept applications even if they're not hiring at the time.. Pretty much every place I've worked has been that way. The best thing to do when you ask for an application is to ask if they're currently hiring and see what they say. Even if they're not hiring at the moment, you can still fill one out because they might keep your application on file in case they have an opening in the future. If they say they are hiring, then fill one out. If you don't get a call back within about a week, call them and ask to speak with the hiring manager. Tell him you filled out an application and were interested in setting up an interview. Usually that's a good indicator that you're interested/serious about the job. Good luck!

No. They can hand out applications even though they are not hiring. They just need people in case in the future. Don't be disgruntled.

Quite often buisnesses, especially big ones like Barnes and Noble, will always hand out applications in order to appear accessible, but does not at all mean that they are "hiring". Generally though, they will hold on to your application for at least a little while and contact you in case an opening comes up.

Most places like that will always be willing to hire someone who they think will be a good worker. However, if they are not currently actively looking for new employees, you may have to work a little harder to get the job. Try calling the store and asking to speak to a manager. Then say something like "I was just calling to make sure you got my application and was wondering if you had any questions." Remember, you have to show them that you are interested in the job and are a committed person who will follow through. Good luck!

Yea every store will let you fill out an application But in reality, if you apply to like 50 stores for a cashier job, these days, you can bet that 30 of the managers will just toss the application in the closest trash can after you walk away. The other 19 will throw it in some drawer never to be seen again. One might contact you, only to reject you once they find out you can only work during the summer

Many places will hand out applications even while they are not hiring. You should ask an employee whether or not they are hiring and for what positions when requesting an application. This will also make you appear more assertive and hireable. :)

Your friend was right. Even if they are giving out applications it doesn't mean they are hiring. They still might not need people, but putting in the applications if possible is always worth it.

Just because a company asks you to complete an employment application doesn't mean it is hiring immediately. Employment applications are usually kept on file for about 6 months.

No. Supposedly companies can't say that they aren't taking applications because they can get sued for discrimination or something stupid. It seems like a waste of paper to me. And yes your friend is correct

Trav

you are required by law to either hand out applications, or explain your hiring policy to everyone...most places accept apps..whether hiring or not....
