• So, I have been interested in the "tiny house" movement for awhile, as simpler living ideals have been something that I've loved since a young teen. For awhile now, I've been trying to determine ways to go about living simply, but also safely and fairly comfortably. Anyway, to spare unnecessary details, I have grown interested in converting a 20 or 40 foot shipping container into a livable small home while I'm still single. I wish to remain debt free as much as possible, so I assume this is a rather inexpensive, safe, and relatively efficient means of housing; based on my research. Anyway, my question is, where and how, would I go about buying a shipping container? It would be preferable to purchase a new one. How much would it cost? Thank you.

  Craigslist might be your friend. I read somewhere that 20 footers are being phased out, so there may be many available on the market. Your best bet is to advertise in areas with a lot of shipping, like big ports and areas with train yards.
