What Is Accounting?

What entry level accounting positions are there? how can I get started in the industry?

  • I am just starting college and have decided to major in accounting. I have taken Accounting 116a which is the most basic accounting class offered in college. I am wondering what are some entry level accounting positions that I can use to get into the industry? If any of you guys are in the accounting industry and have found success I would love to hear your story as to how you got started. Thanks a lot!

  • Answer:

While you're taking the course, you might find a job assisting an accountant cos you won't be independent yet. And hopefully, that accountant can teach you on the job and cement what you learn in college. I don't know what 116a means, but when you complete your course, see if you can continue to get a degree. One good way is to start with an audit firm. Training is usually very good and you'll get a good foundation. If you don't like audit, just continue with assisting an experienced accountant, and try to widen your responsibilities as you gain confidence. And last but not least, don't ever call it the accounting industry. It's always the accounting profession:)
