Why do people blame video games for all of societies problems?

Why blame video games?

  • Why is it when a murder takes place that people immediately come to the conclusion that a violent game/movie is to blame? People are responsible for their own actions

  • Answer:

I totally agree. Maybe whoever killed someone happened to play a videogame or maybe because some videogames are violent. I play bloody/violent videogames and I'm fine.

Agreed if you are talking about reasonably intelligent people who can differentiate between fantasy and reality but what about the others?.Ask yourself also, why anyone needs(and I emphasise needs) to watch and play such garbage. There's a life out there beyond that screen!

you are right about people are responsible for their actions, but some people they want to copy whatever the character in the movie or the video game does.

Not every murder as to be blame on a game because if a person does kill it because they are over the age when the dont play game.If youger and still play games the must want to try what the video game or movie does. Like i seen a video that the police were chase a car as the came to pit manuver on them the did a 360 and kept driveing the guy did this 3x or 4x ontill hit another and then a light pole. the guy in the car lokk youger like 20 or 25 year old which at the age the still play video game. So it had to be a raceing game or something. But I play every kind of game and it not a problem to me. And yeah people have there on action to do what ever the want.

Fact: It is easier to blame that which we do not understand than face up to the reality of the problem. I listen to Heavy Metal, play Video Games and watch all sorts of movies and T.V...... so technically speaking I should be sitting in my own personal asrenal right now... but I'm not! If you look the cases surrounding youth violence they all have certain similarities: Evidence of parental neglect, bullying, mental illness, and usually some form of prior criminal behavior. It is much easier to find the scapegouat than tackle the true issues i.e. restrictions in social services, inadiquences in the legal system or (U.S.) gun laws. It simply boils down to the numbers! If there IS a link, why then are we not seeing violence on a grand scale? Why is it still limited to a minority of individuals (who fall into the criteria above)? Sadly the debate becomes muddied by American studies (where you can pretty much argue day is night as long as there are a bunch of mindless christian fundamentalists paying your bills) that claim to have found links. But I did read 1 study which basically says that no study will ever outright prove it as , in order to prove a link, it would theoretically involve mentally damage an otherwise normal inncoent child i.e. manipulate them through violent imagary and then put them in a situation where there could be a possible vioent incident.

i agree with you and i'm still 14 years old. i love playing rated M games but I never dared to shoot or murder one person in my life even when i'm getting really mad. actually, it depends on a person and how he can fight his own feelings of aggression. video games shouldn't have to be blamed at but video games can trigger emotionally depressed person. but the effect on me was actually different (i'm telling you the truth), and i was a depressed person before and i lack self-confidence. but when i began to play in a console, i began to accept myself and i'm no longer depressed. though i still lack confidence, i'm finally enjoying myself. different isn't it?

You're right, but people tend to find scape goats for things, rather than dealing with the actual problem like mental health issues or problems within the family that led to a person from that family committing a crime like murder or another serious violent act. I always remember in relation to this issue a presentation someone did at university. this guy claimed that there was a story he had read which said that some guy in the states had seen Jesus of Nazareth or something similar and decided that he should crucify members of his family. Now does that mean that we should ban films like that or any references to it? No! And why is that? Because obviously it was the reason at fault, not the film and the same goes for games. I must say though that parents should take more care at checking out software, I remember working in a shop trying to explain to parents the contents of GTA and why letting little jimmy play it was a bad idea and they didn't seem to care. People are the problems, not the games!
