Do you think video games can get any more graphically detailed?
-
Now as most of us gamers know, and even non-gamers, the visuals in these new games on the PS3 and 360 look amazing, the physics, facial features, environments just look beautiful and so realistic, sometimes people can even confuse that for a real live movie because it looks so well detailed. So I ask you for you opinions, do you think we have reached the limit in terms of graphics in games? do you think that it can't get anymore real than Snake's wrinkles in Metal Gear or Marcus Fenix's 5'o clock shadow and beard in Gears of War, or the realism of games like Heavy Rain? I mean wow! these games look SOOOOOO real now that it just blows me away, when most of us were in the N64 and Playstation 1 era we knew that games were going to look better, also when we were in the PS2, gamecube, and Xbox era we still knew it could get better, but NOW these games look as if they can't possibly get anymore real, so I want to hear your thoughts and opinions on this subject, do you think games can get graphically better? or do you think this is it in terms of graphics? i.e that it can't get any better than this?

Answer:
Yes, the best graphics I have seen would be that of Crysis. It is a game for the PC. I think that the PS3's graphics are overall going to be greater. Eventually Microsoft will come out with a new console (which I hope that that one won't have the red ring of death or break) which could have a better graphics card. I know for sure, that somehow, they will gradually get better and better. I don't know how good the PS3's graphics will get, but I guess only time will tell. Another thing that you have to remember is the tvs. Lets say you are playing a first person shooter and you are looking really far off in the distance. You won't be able to see as well on a 480p tv like you would on a 1080p tv. The 1080p would have more pixels so it would be able to display details with more clarity. I might be able to give you an idea of how good the graphics of the PS3 will get. Mirror's Edge, Farcry 2, and Killzone 2 are two of the games that I have seen that have really good graphics. Try looking them up. The best graphics that I have seen for the 360 would be Gears of War 2, Farcry 2, and Mirror's Edge. Both systems have really good graphics, but the PS3 will eventually gain control. The big advantage of the PS3 is the capacity of their blu-ray discs. PC also has great graphics, but that type of gaming is just not for me. Remember that graphics are everything. Some games are just pure fun, such as Little Big Planet. I am getting that the day it comes out.

sure but they should make the games longer i dont care about how pretty it looks just make it longer
latin_runner
just wait until you get to actually go in the game itself that would be cool

As time goes on, new technology will arise that might make the games we play look better. We will have to wait and see

I don't think so. Maybe a LITTLE bit more, like to photo-real, because no one, not even MGS4, has photo-real yet. GT5 Prologue is close, but not quite there. Once we get to the photo-real stage, I think that VR (virtual reality) might come back, so you dont just play the game, you're IN IT! Hope you like my opinion.

Video games as we know them have only been around for 30 years or so. And in that time we have gone from the simple black and white graphics of pong, to the incredibly detailed graphics of today. Can they get better? Of course they can. Given enough time, computer graphics will be indistinguishable from reality. Its all a matter of processing power and memory. 10 years from now you will look back on the graphics of today as positively blocky.

i think in the future there will be more and better things with technology. I think the future will bring more than we expect it to. I think the gaming systems we have nowadays will be like the gamecude and gameboy to us now, very little people has it. I also think the gaming sytems in the future will be more like you are in the game than playing it. With technology though you can't say what might happen and what wouldn't happen. All we kno they could be working on a new system now

well now they look almost too perfect. like perfect skin perfect hair, etc. they could get 3D and you could get like INTO it but other than that i'd say no even though they probably can just a little tiny bit. good question
insanity_SOS
Can they? yes. Will they? not really. You will never have a photorealistic video game, as the higher quality the image is, the more time (and thus money) it costs to make it look more real. Therefore, a game would have to have a practically infinite budget to get photorealism, and no company is going to justify that. the diminishing returns we already have suggest that it won't get much better, at least until we get to the point were we are using OLED wallpaper to turn the entire room into a huge TV.
