Are there any good offline multiplayer FPS's?

Call Of Duty Black Ops multiplayer offline Cod points?

• I went to a friends house and played call of duty black ops on a split screen with four people and used the customization and scene then I have wanted the game for that ability. I do not have xbox live and cannot get xbox live and I hear that's the only way to earn money which you need to customize the weapons in offline multiplayer. I am mainly interested in the 4 player multiplayer split screen ability (due to lack of other FPS games with customization abilities). Are there ANY ways to earn Cod points or level up without xbox live? Is the game worth buying or is Modern Warfare 2 better?

  There is a mode called combat training where you play against AI bots, but you have a seperate rank to the main online mode. I don't know if you can play combat training without Xbox live though. You can't rank up for the online mode without Xbox live though, and Black ops is far better than MW2.
