Pokemon VGC 2011 Trick Room Team?
-
Pkemon VGC Rules >Only Unova Pokemon >No main legendaries (Victini included) This is my second Trick Room Team. As you can see, there are a lot of changes I am thinking about making Leads: Reunicles @ Life Orb (or maybe Focus Sash...?) Magic Guard Quiet 252 Hp/252 Sp Atk >Energy Ball (thinking of replacing it with Focus Blast despite the fact it's got poor accuracy) >Psychic >Trick Room >Shadow Ball A fairly standard lead, Reunicles sets up Trick Room and can then immediately start attacking with Life Orb boosted STAB'd Psychic. Shadow ball is so I can hit fellow Psychics and any other Ghost-types who might threaten me. Energy Ball is for coverage although I feel it's a bit redundant. I considered, and probably should go with Focus Blast over Energy Ball, but the Accuracy of it makes me nervous. I would hate to miss at a crucial moment. Hydreigon walls me if I don't carry Focus Blast; I'd appreciate if someone could tell me a good move to use instead. Amoonguss @ Sitrus Berry Effect Spore Sassy 252 Hp/252 Def >Rage Powder >Spore >Giga Drain >Protect Amoonguss, although pathetic in appearance, can be extremely irritating to my opponent. In the opening turn I'lll usually check to see how threatening the opposing Pokemon are before either Rage Powdering to save Reunicles or Protecting to keep Amonguss alive. After Trick Room is up Amoonguss's true potential is unlocked: with no Sleep Clause I am free to Spore all of my opponents' Pokemon to sleep, then finishing them off with Reunincles powerful base 125 Sp Atk. Giga Drain is so Taunt doesn't force me to switch out and so that I have something to hit with. I rarely ever use it though.... Sitrus Berry extends this mushroom's longevity, letting me annoy my opponent even more. Pokemon in the back (alternating depending on the Pokemon I see in Team Preview): Escavalier @ Lum Berry Swarm Brave 252 Hp/252 Atk >Iron Head >X-Scissor >Protect >Sword Dance (can be changed) When I first saw Escavalier I was enchanted: only one weakness (albeit a 4x one), numerous resistances, a Base Attack equal to Metagross, and pretty solid defenses. Unfortunately, this thing couldn't outspeed a three-year-old on a trike. That's where Trick Room comes in, turning this slow tank into a dangerous bulky attacker. Iron Head is for stab and flinch abuse (spamming makes luck) and X-Scissor for STAB (I went with this because I've seen Megahorn miss at game changing moments). Protect so I have a turn of shielding so that a team mate can take out dangerous fire-types that could easily KO this awesome tank. I put Sword Dance because I thought the attack boost would be beast but I've realized using it wastes a turn where I could be attacking and with Trick Room only lasting 5 turns, I probably will have few chances of using it. Jellicent @ Choice Specs Water Absorb Quiet 252 Hp/252 Sp Atk >Water Spout >Shadow Ball >Ice Beam >Blizzard (might change) The nuclear missile of this team, Jellicent hits like a monster, spamming Specs-boosted Water Spouts to deadly affect, hitting even Pokemon who resist it hard. Shadow Ball is for obligatory STAB and Ice Beam/Blizzard for those pesky dragons. I sometimes lead with him so I can switch out to use him later if he takes enough damage that Water Spout becomes weak. Eelektross @ Flight Gem Levitate Brave 252 Hp/252 Atk >Acrobatics >Wild Charge >Rock Slide >Dragon Claw (can be changed) I liek this guy because he has zero weaknesses and great coverage. Acrobatics is good for KOing/doing heavy damage to a variety of Pokemon found in the VGC metagame (Conkledurr, Scrafty, Whimsicott, etc.). Wild Charge is STAB and hits Jellicents, and two of the genies pretty hard. Rock Slide hits fire and annihilates Volcarna completely. Dragon Claw was a bit of a filler; I'm debating using a Heart Scale to teach him Crunch. Seeing as how he has no weaknesses, I felt Protect wasn't all that necessary. Alternate Lead: Cofagrigus @ Spell Tag/Filler Item Mummy Sassy 252 Hp/252 Sp Atk >Energy Ball (maybe Focus Blast) >Trick Room >Shadow Ball >Psychic I use Cofagrigus when I see an obvious Fake Out lead. Cofagrigus's typing makes him immune to this disrupting move and helps me set up Trick Room. His Sp Atk isn't insane, so I might switch him out when I get a chance, or just keep him in and try to get some KOs before fainting. Energy Ball for coverage, Shadow Ball for STAB, and Psychic to hit them fighting types (I'm looking at you Conkledurr and Mienshao!!) Some of these Pokemon I chose because they caught my eye, some I chose because they're VGC Trick Room staples, and some I chose because of previous ideas I found surfing the Net. Pokemon who give me trouble are powerful dark type Pokemon like Hydreigon who hi

Answer:
Sorry if I'm a bit brief when making this: Pros: +Reunculus is very bulky, so it's the ideal trick room lead. Same with Amoongus +A really good balance of walls and attackers +Escavalier is almost unstoppable in trick room teams. +Jellicent and Amoongus are great walls and supporters +Eelektross has no weaknesses outside of a Mold Breaker Pokemon with Earthquake Cons: -Yes, a Hydreigon could easily obliterate this team. It's probably going to be a very common Pokemon in the VGC, since it's very common in Random Matchup -FIVE TURNS. That's how much time you have to beat your foe. Take any longer, and you will be completely outspeeded by your opponent, so make sure you use moves that hit both foes. Overall, an 8/10. You REALLY need to watch out for Hydreigon, and you NEED to be fast in beating the foe, too. If you can get past those things, your team is near perfect. Good Luck in the VGC, and tell us how you did when you get back! :D

Im tempted to steal this team lol this is good, however just to let you on a secret...there are going to be A LOT of TR teams there (so ive heard) so be prepared for that I was also gonna make a TR team with my friend xD I suggest ( this is only my opinion though) putting Focus Blast on Reuniclus@Life Orb and keep Energy Ball on Cofagrigus. For Eelektross, Dragon claw helps since only steel has a resistance to it; Also there arent many slow dragon pokemon in 5th gen soo if you are going to switch it out i would say put in Hone Claws Jellicent is good with Blizzard (Go with Ice Beam if you dont want to risk missing) Btw you also have 3 weaknesses to Dark and Fire so you might want to throw in some pokemon or moves to counter those types Good Luck in VGC =P
Xiraiya
Shuckle@Focus Sash EV it in Defense and have a Defense boosting nature. Have power trick and some powerful moves. Shuckle=first turn attacking sweeper with 600+ attack. You're welcome.
