Do you feel like you've grown out of games?
-
Games are supposed to be fun. I get that. But as I get older, it seems like I want more from games than just mindless killing. Pretty much every game I play nowdays seems to have that "been there, done that" feel. The two games that I've played recently that made me think of this are Infamous and Prototype. These games do nothing new, especially story wise. The narrative in the game should be the driving force. It seems like most of the newer games use it as filler than anything else. Infamous' story was terrible. Most of it was told in half assed comic style scenes. Prototype's cutscenes aren't any better. Mostly the games resort to telling the story through the protagonist talking to himself... Is this all games are? What I want to see is a game that can actually be put in the league of books and movies. There have been a few games like this (that I've seen). Braid was a game that had great gameplay but also had a pretty interesting, abstract story with symbolism for once. Another is Flower. Flower is the game equivalent of a poem. It was a sweet, relaxing game that had a message. It seems the indie game crowd are the only ones that are on the right track that can push games to a new level. I've loved games all my life, but it's going to take a lot more from the industry to keep me interested. With publishers putting more focus on the casual gamer crowd, I don't see how games can break loose from the labels it has been given (waste of time, don't get anything out of them, just entertainment, etc). I hope to see some individuals in the future who truly love to make great games change games industry. Because right now, it isn't living up to it's potential. Thoughts?

Answer:
i agree with you, alot of games should be avoided now because the better the graphics get the less attention is paid to other aspects of the game by developers. Games like assassins creed and prototype fell way too short for me. tedious and repetitive making you regret spending so much money on such a worthless game. i love games that break the mold and have an immersive story. i enjoyed games like mass effect, bioshock and alone in the dark. final fantasy always do well at capturing a good balance between a great story, cutscenes and battling. Sometimes though games that are just all shooting or action can get it right, left for dead done it by bringing the FPS to a horde of zombies and making teamwork the main element, they done well at also letting you become the infected to hunt down the survivors
