Have you ever been ripped of by buying from eBay?

Hi Has anyone else been ripped off using EBay?

  • Hello, Has anybody else been ripped off using Ebay, By ripped off I mean.. Buying something and you never recived the item or the item was faulty or the item was not described correctly. And if so is it worth trying to get a refund. Cheers. I am thinking about closing my account as I have been ripped off for the second time. What do you think?

Yes! I bought a W.W.2 wounded badge, and when it arrived it turned out to be the biggest piece of reproduction crap that I have ever seen! If that wasn,t bad enough, he had already over-charged me on the postage! Something needs to be done about buyers inability to get redress in such circumstances! I have noticed , of late, that many of the sellers are ensuring a good return, by charging more postage than the item they are selling is worth!

I only pay using Pay Pal and never buy from anybody who does not have a !00 % feedback rating. I have had about 200 transactions without any bother so far. The thing is to read the discription of the article very carefully. The moral of the story is buyer beware.

I have bought a ridiculous amount of items from different people on ebay, NEVER had one bad transaction. What are the people's percentage ratings that you are buying these faulty items from?

No, I've never been ripped off, and I use E-Bay all the time mainly to purchase items. Use your head before you send your money to anyone....always use Paypal....check the seller's feedback....contact the seller if you're unsure about them or the item.....ask plenty of very clear questions about the item including the obvious, like "Is it genuine or a fake?" etc. Genuine sellers will give you a genuine answer. As in everything else, there are some idiots on E-Bay who would love to take your money. Think about the item you're buying. Spend time making sure it's really what you're after. Decide what you're prepared to pay. If someone does try to rip you off, after you've paid. Contact them by mail and then by phone.....you can get their number from E-Bay if you've bought or sold something with them. If you still have no luck report it to E-Bay and Paypal and insist that you get your money back, which you will. Enjoy E-Bay, and don't listen to the endless whingers who know nothing about it!

my friend got ripped of buying a cell phone

I have had a couple of problems with buying stuff off E-bay. The first thing was some gift vouchers which never arrived. I actually paid by cheque on this occasion - £70 for £100 worth of vouchers which never arrived - he was just a rip-off merchant. I claimed through e-bay but after they took off the P&P and their £15 admin fee, I only got around £45 back and it took MONTHS. On two other occasions, when I had paid via Paypal and the goods never arrived, for one item, which had actually gone missing in the post, the man then sent me a replacement after Paypal intervened and the other item, Paypal found in my favour but couldn't give me all the money back as there was not enough in the man's Paypal account. If Paypal find in your favour, they will only give you the money back if the person has it in their account, they will not take legal action to recover your loss. In the case of the gift vouchers, I was going to report it to the police but my friend, who is a Detective Sergeant, told me that, although the case would be investigated, the police would not get my money back. I would have to take him to a small claims court and I would then, obviously, only get my money back if I won the case. As the seller was at the other end of the country and I had some of my money back, I decided it wasn't worth the effort.

Of course they have... I am personally staggered that people are happy to buy other people's hand me downs....by sight only via the internet. No wonder things are going to turn up and not be exactly what people were hoping or expecting them to be..... User ratings are all very well....but what does that mean on a one off situation. I wish you well and hope you were not swindled too badly....
