How to open a gamestop?

Does Gamestop really open new copies of games?

  • I've never ever had this problem, but I've heard that Gamestop will open new copies of games, let their employees play them, put them back in their box, and sell them as new? Whenever I have bought a game from Gamestop, the packaging seems to be factory new, and the game is in perfect condition. Can anyone say definitively whether this happens or not?

  • Answer:

They do, but only one. They don't always get a display box, so they must open a copy of the game to use the empty box as a display. They can't leave the sealed game on the shelf, as it would get stolen. However, the Gamestop I go to tells me if that is the only copy they have left, asking if I still want it. If you go to buy one and it is not sealed, you can say no or ask if they have any sealed ones left. Most of the time, larger game shipments will come with an empty display box (which is the same case the game comes in, just empty and sometimes without any paperwork (instructions, codes, etc). Smaller games, however, that they only get a few copies of, usually require them to make their own display case, causing them to have to open one up. If you are buying a new game and see them grabbing a round, clear sticker, this is the time to stop them if you want a sealed copy.
