How To Crochet Turkish Edging?

Which crochet edging should i use?

  • i have made a full size crochet afghan. The middle i have done a 20"x20" square in afghan stitch and cross-stitched a leaping deer in brown with a navy blue design around it. The rest of the afghan is done in treble crochet, and i used a cream color yarn. I am having trouble deciding what edging to use. Any ideas?

  • Answer:

I have always used a slip-stitch edging on my afghan-stitch projects. I do a double - that is, I go around once, then a second time right over the stitches from the previous row, working the new stitches into the same spaces as the previous row. (Personally, I'd suggest using your navy yarn for the edging, but it's a matter of personal taste and preference.) This makes a firm and durable (but not bulky) edging, which is also appropriate with a lacy stitch like triple crochet, and is GREAT for covering/hiding yarn ends if you need to. Several projects I've made with this finish are still in regular use 20-30 years later. Congratulations on your almost-completed project, and good luck!
