How do we make crayons?

  • I heard it's more like making chalk, and i know how to make chalk. Is there any truth in this? what exactly do we need and how are we to go about to make crayons? Thank u! * plz suggest something that we can do at home. ANd i want some serious answers... plz don't fool around*

    A really easy way is to make crayon cupcakes: http://www.kinderart.com/littles/little22.shtml You can usually get a lot of broken crayons at the end of the year from elementary school teachers. I have melted the wax and poured it into molds. I've also made candles. This is a LOT safer and easier. If you want, on a really hot day you can get tinfoil and melt it outside in a modified solar oven.

Why make crayons when you can buy crayons and make your own lip gloss!!! Melt 1 crayon color of your choice...beware because this will color your lips the color you pick. Then melt 1 tbs of beeswax or one tub of chapstick ina pot then pour into a container or back into the chapstick tub. Let it dry. You now have lip gloss in your favorite color!

chalk is compressed powder. Crayons are solid wax. Think the essayist way to make crayons wold probably be to remove the paper of already made crayons and melt them then CAREFULLY pour the melted wax into a mold BE VERY CAREFUL

take old broken crayons, melt some down in a small double boiler, and pour into molds, you can make new colors or you can make one with many colors in it if you let each color cool, before you add another. you can also make interesting colors by using a knife and shaving lots of crayons down into little bits, then pouring them into whatever you are using for a mold and pouring a little melted crayon over them to hold it together. crayons are wax and wax based color, thats all there is to it. chalk is nothing like a crayon really. you can also use broken crayons to color wax for making candles.

Sorry, Katie, I have to disagree. We had a crayon making machine and it was a big disappointment and MESS! The crayons were ugly and the machine hard to clean between batches. I got rid of it. It is much neater and more satisfying to use a flexible mold--I have used the kind you make candy with, and there are molds for polymer clay. You can also get a modeling material to make you own molds. Use mini pie tins to melt the wax, and you can shape a little spout on the edge for neatly pouring the wax into a mold. Colors are better this way than in the machine. Use top grade wax, like Crayola crayons. Not all crayons are made the same and some don't melt properly.
